Barcelona-based Lluch Essence, a family-owned supplier of fragrance, cosmetic and food ingredients, has achieved B Corp certification, giving independent validation to a business model the company says has guided it since its founding in 1939.

Eva Lluch and Sofía Lluch, co-owners and representatives of the company’s third generation, said, “This certification does not change who we are but rather confirms who we have always been. Our commitment to people, our customers, our suppliers and a long-term business vision have been part of Lluch’s identity for generations. Today, there is an international standard that accredits and recognizes this way of doing business.”

Lucas Hunter, acting executive director of B Lab Spain, says: “We are delighted to welcome Lluch Essence to the B Corp community. This community works to reduce inequality, respect and regenerate the environment, strengthen communities and create high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. The certification places Lluch Essence within the global B Corp movement, which recognizes companies assessed against social, environmental and governance standards. For a specialty ingredients supplier, the designation is particularly notable as the fragrance and flavor industry faces growing scrutiny around traceability, responsible sourcing, supply-chain management, transparency and environmental impact.

B Corp certification evaluates companies across five areas—governance, employees, community, environment and customers—and requires businesses to provide evidence of their practices through a rigorous assessment. Certified companies must also formally incorporate their social purpose into their governing documents.

Lluch Essence is positioning the certification not as a change in strategy but as external validation of an approach embedded in the company's history. Under its “Born to B. Born to lead the change” platform, the company says its focus on people, environmental responsibility, transparency and long-term value creation predates the current emphasis on sustainable business practices.

Rather than focusing solely on the environmental profile of individual raw materials, B Corp's framework examines how a company is governed, how it treats employees and communities, how it manages environmental impacts and how it creates value for customers.

Lluch Essence views the certification as a starting point for continued improvement rather than an endpoint. The company says it intends to use the recognition to drive further innovation and strengthen its leadership around responsible business practices, with the broader goal of helping raise standards across the flavors and fragrances industry.

The certification adds Lluch Essence to a global B Corp community of more than 11,000 companies across more than 100 countries and 160 industries. In Spain, the community includes more than 300 companies.
