Wella has filed for a US initial public offering (IPO) after months of speculation following a revenue increase for the beauty brand owner.

The company, which owns nail care line OPI, hair tools brand GHD, hair styling range Briogeo and its namesake hair care brand, filed for an IPO on 31 August, following strong figures in its annual financial statements.

Wella had a net income of US$2.7m on $2.94bn of revenue for the year ended 30 June.

This follows a net loss of $44.6m on revenue of $2.69bn in the same period the year prior.

Wella is backed by private equity firm KKR, which acquired a majority stake in the beauty brand owner in 2020.

KKR went on to purchase Coty’s remaining stake in the company in 2025.

According to the initial filing, the proceeds of Wella’s IPO are set to be used for a number of purposes, including repaying debt and the tax consequences of restructuring.

Earlier this year, Wella appointed ex-Sephora Americas boss Calvin McDonald as its new CEO.

Commenting on the appointment at the time, Nancy Ford, Partner at KKR, said: “We are pleased with the growth that Wella has achieved since our initial investment, and are confident that Calvin is the right leader to build on that foundation and propel the company into its next chapter.”
