Lush is relaunching its most popular giving product, Charity Pot, due to consumer demand, after discontinuing the item in 2024.

Charity Pot will be available from 15 September on the Lush App and Lush Club, and from 17 September in all of the beauty retailer’s UK and Ireland shops and online for £11.

Lush said 75% of the sales price (minus tax) will be donated to fund activism in the areas of human rights, environment and animal protection.

The British beauty retailer’s Charity Pot body lotion was scrapped from shelves at the end of September 2024 as the business entered what it called “a new era” of charitable giving.

Although Lush discontinues products every so often to make way for fresh innovations, when it discontinued Charity Pot, the community reaction was “very different”, a spokesperson for the brand’s Lush Giving Team told Cosmetics Business.

“Ever since this iconic lotion left the shelves, our customers and staff across the business have asked for it back,” the Lush Giving Team spokesperson said.

“People have missed not only the product itself, with its soothing and moisturising effect on the skin, but also the good that it has funded around the world.”

Lush co-founder and CEO Mark Constantine formulated and launched Charity Pot in April 2007, with the intent that he would raise £1m for small charities, campaigning groups and other good causes.

Due to the popularity and support of Lush customers, it went on to raise £80m, making up a major milestone in 2024 when Lush’s giving total reached £100m via its additional giving streams.

However, Lush decided it should return now because “the world needs grassroots activism more than ever before, but we never stopped giving”.

The Lush Giving Team spokesperson continued: “Since 2024 we have launched more than 35 giving products around the world, highlighting specific issues we care about and raising funds for grassroots organisations addressing those issues.

“Once we had made the call for Charity Pot’s return, the rest of the business began gearing up for its return with much excitement.”

Lush’s Charity Pot will also return to most of the business’ markets outside of the UK too.

“It allows small organisations campaigning on the most pressing issues of our time that might struggle to find funding elsewhere to apply for funding from their local Charity Pot fund,” the Lush Giving Team spokesperson said.

“We want to fund more grassroots activism, the change-makers, and those making the world a kinder, safer and greener place.

“The world is facing multiple crises, but there are also communities of people collectively speaking out to defend our rights, protect the environment and stand up for all animals.”
